Copyrights Sale Hot for 2.5 Billion Yuan in Guangzhou Comic Festival
October 22, 2009On October 5, the 2nd China International Comics Festival lowered its curtain after 7 days of exhibition. With an audience of more than 150,000 people, this year’s festival attendance was up 13% from last year. The transaction value for exhibitors both in China and from abroad was over 4 billion Yuan, among which, more than 2.5 billion Yuan came from copyright transactions.
As it was introduced, this is the first time that copyright transactions appeared in the Comic Festival. Sponsors hope to construct a long stable platform for copyright transaction using this opportunity. The truth is that it arouses keen interests from enterprises, both from China and abroad. Comic enterprises representatives, comic celebrities, industry base principles, publishers, media buyers, toy manufacturers came together at this festival, including some famous comic enterprises like Warner Brothers, Disney, Sanrio (copyright owner of Hello Kitty), and some domestic enterprises like CCTV Animation and SMG. Participants jointly launched the first public creative service platform-comic creative library in order to gather excellent cosmic works from home and abroad. The goal is to gradually build up an electronic display and transaction platform, effectively protect comic works’ IPR by copyright registration and provide service for cosmic enterprises and talents.
