The Number of Patent Applications Continues to GrowAccording to the statistics of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), in the first five months of this year, the number of patent applications in China has grown noticeably. In this time there have already been 110,000 patent applications submitted, an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year.

Recently, the director of SIPO, Mr. Wang Xing Chuan, stated that among all the patent applications, the patent application on inventions is increasing most rapidly. It has increased by 40% compared to the same period of last year with a total of 38,564 applications being submitted in the first five months of this year. Furthermore, there have been 39,992 patent applications on utility models submitted, an increase of 10% over the same period of time when compared to last year. Lastly, 35,528 patent applications on industrial design have been submitted this year, an increase of 14% when compared to last year.
