NPC Will Discuss Report for Joining WIPO's Treaties within This Year
September 30, 2006Mr. Xiaohong Yan, deputy director-general of the National Copyright Bureau, informed “First Finance and Economics Daily” on September 5, 2006 during the 2006 International Copyright Forum that the State Council will raise a bill to NPC by the end of this year for joining two treaties of WIPO, the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty.
According to Mr. Yan, the two treaties were formulated under the condition of information network. The demonstration work for joining the two treaties has been completed by now, and the report is ready for discussion on the meeting of the standing committee of NPC this year. To adapt to these two treaties, the State Council has promulgated “Regulation for the Protection of the Right of Communication through Information Network”, which have come into force as of July 1, 2006.
