New Varieties of Plants Protection Got Remarkable Achievement in China

On April 23, a ceremony on “10th Anniversary of the Implementation of Regulations on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants in China and China’s Attendance of the International New Varieties of Plants Protection Association” was held by the Ministry of Agriculture of China, the State Forestry Administration of China and the State Intellectual Property Office of China in Beijing. 30 groups and 70 people were awarded on the ceremony. Up to March 31, 2009, the new varieties of plants applications reached 6,384 and authorizations reached 2,312. The applicants were from 30 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China; and15 foreign countries. Applications and authorizations in Sichuan province have ranked the first for 6 years continuously.

On April 23, 1999, China joined the International New Varieties of Plants Protection Association as the 39th member country and put the Regulations on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants into effect.
